Role and Responsibilities

We are responsible for the campus engineering information, facilities documentation, project planning, design and construction observation, appraisals and acquisition of properties identified as needed for campus use by the Planning and Budget Office. Our department assists the Maintenance Department in obtaining information relative to the proper maintenance, repair and replacement of campus building systems.

We are involved in campus planning to provide engineering input, construction cost analysis, planning input for Physical Plant needs in upcoming projects and preparation of project requests and budgets. We also prepare and submit project requests to the State of Wisconsin's small projects program for repair and maintenance of the Physical Plant.

During project design and construction we are the liaison between the campus faculty, staff and students, and the participants in the project from the Department of Administration, Division of State Facilities, Project Design Professionals and Project Contractors. We also design, prepare documents, bid and supervise construction of projects less than $30,000.00 internally.

We maintain the campus master drawings and master files on all building systems and equipment, facilities inventory and maintain the master list of all campus spaces. This information is distributed to users on campus, administrators in Madison and design professionals as needed for ongoing campus business.
