The mission of the University of Wisconsin-Stout Physical Plant is to provide the university and community with the highest quality facilities and physical environment for learning and working, by maximizing available resources.
Office Hours
Our open office hours are Monday through Friday, 7:30am - 4:30pm.
Our Goals
- Provide a safe, clean, healthy and aesthetically pleasing environment
- Promote excellent customer service
- Promote communication within the university community
- Provide employee development which contributes to excellence in performance
- Facilitate the efficient and effective management of resources
Strategies and Objectives
1. To continue to use a team approach in operations and management and to incorporate sharing of resources in regards to staffing, equipment, and budget.
- This will be accomplished by holding regular staff meetings, at which time needs and priorities will be reviewed, and we will promote assistance between units. As a department, we will work to anticipate changing needs in time to develop new programs, services, and strategies to acquire needed tools or technology. This will give us the ability to identify equipment that can be utilized in all units and transfer funds to appropriate units.
- Measuring will be done in terms of how successful we are in assisting each unit. Some examples are snow removal, athletic field maintenance, parking lot maintenance, Computerized Maintenance Management System, implementation and budgeting funds for new needs, moves and remodeling projects, and departments across campus. We will utilize TMA work orders to track assistance given by each unit.
2. Continue improvement of internal and external communication with customers and Physical Plant employees.
- A communications person will continue to send e-mail to the campus and publications to the Community News. The Physical Plant Web Page will be kept current to further Physical Plant Communications. Surveying our customers and asking for feedback about our services will provide measurement.
- Increase computer accessibility and training for all Physical Plant Employees.
3. To continue to promote safety in Physical Plant work environment.
- Each unit will provide a minimum of a quarterly safety-training topic, as well as other ongoing training for our staff.
- Will use the Near Miss/Safety Concern form, and distribute weekly safety fliers to employees.
- Safety and training files have been set up to help in measurement of our success. These files will stay with the employee as long as they are employed in the Physical Plant.
4. To deliver facilities management services in an efficient cost-effective manner.
- In an effort to identify deferred maintenance needs, facilities audits will continue to be performed utilizing the FacMan Computer Module.
- Measurement will be based on the number of projects that are initiated, and the backlog of preventative maintenance workorders.
- Work on gathering measurement data utilizing TMA, FacMan and other resources in order to target areas for improving Physical Plant Services.
- Maintain or improve existing BTU/GSF ratio.
- Manage the annual Electrical Peak Demand.
- Keep up with cost efficient technology to improve work process and information flow.
