NOVICE BEGINNER ADVANCED BEGINNING SPANISH
Novice Beginner Spanish - Registrations are no longer being accepted. The course has reached capacity.
This is a course in elementary Spanish. Students will learn basic Spanish for travel, work, personal growth, or family relations. All students – whether enrolled for personal or professional use – will learn the basics. Following this course students will be prepared to acquire more specialized professional vocabulary and to undertake advanced study of Spanish or an immersion experience.
What you will learn:
- Tricks for learning Spanish
- Build a useful vocabulary
- Spanish pronunciation
- Spanish present tense – both regular and irregular
- Survival Spanish phrases
- Essential courtesies, greetings, etc. in Spanish
- Cultural differences
What you will do in class:
- You will speak to classmates using your Spanish
- Have your questions about the language answered
- Join in Spanish activities and games
- Hear and view materials in Spanish
- Refine your accent
- Meet and make friends with people also interested in Spanish
- Have fun!
Advanced Beginner Spanish
This course is for adults who have had basic Spanish and want to polish or recover their faded skills. The course is also a continuation for those students who have had elementary Spanish and want to sharpen and expand their skills. The course prepares adults considering an experience abroad, either for immersion study in Spanish or for volunteer work. It also prepares adults who interact with native speakers in the course of their careers.
What you will learn:
- Thorough review of your basic Spanish
- Practice in spoken Spanish
- Acquisition of stress and accent
- Expanded vocabulary
- Practice in learned (but forgotten) basic forms
- Acquisition of more advanced forms
- Past tenses
- Conditional tense
- Giving commands
- Making comparisons and other troublesome areas for native speakers of English
- The Have-No-Fear approach to Spanish usage
What you will do in class:
- Listen to Spanish spoken at acquisition rates
- Use media developed for students of Spanish
- Converse in Spanish with fellow adult students
- Have your questions on Spanish answered
- Learn to take risks in Spanish
- Play games (for fun and language practice)
- Practice new forms
- Network with people interested in improving their Spanish
