Student Business Services has all current tuition payment information on their website here: http://www.uwstout.edu/stubus/

Generally, unless the student has signed a Payment Plan Agreement, all fees are due by the 5th day of the term for the Spring and Fall terms and the 1st week of the 1st class for Winterm and Summer. Payment Plan Agreements can be done via the internet at Access Stout.

A minimum payment of $200.00 is due by the 5th day of the term, 1/2 of the balance is due approximately 30 days after and the remaining balance is due approximately 60 days after the start of the term. Any balance that is carried over after the first 30 days of the term will incur a monthly finance charge of 1.5% added to the balance.

Excess Credit Tuition Fee Policy

Students who accumulate more than 165 credits or 30 credits more than required for the student’s major are charged excess fees as per the UW-System Excess Credit Fee Policy 4-15 . Students accumulating excess credits will be charged a surcharge, equal to 100 percent of the regular resident tuition, on credits beyond that level. Students are expected to complete their degree requirements within a reasonable number of credits above and beyond the required program.

Waivers to the Excess Credit Fee may be granted. If you would like to appeal the excess credit fees that have been assessed, please use the Excess Credit Fee Waiver/Appeal Form found at: http://www.uwstout.edu/provost/Excess Credit Fee Waiver.pdf

Course Audit Policy

The UW-System policy allows flexibility to each university to determine which credit classes are open to auditors. Outreach Services-Continuing Education will allow audits if the instructor agrees to allow audits, and the following conditions have been met:

  1. the course enrollment limit has not been met; and
  2. all course costs are covered by existing enrollment

If audits are allowed, Wisconsin residents will be charged 30 percent of the normal per credit academic fee, and non-residents will be charged 50 percent of the normal per credit academic fee. Any special costs for course instruction, other than normal tuition, will also be assessed to auditors. The individual who would like to audit will not be notified until one week prior to the course start date.

No audits will be allowed in courses with customized or special tuition.

Full audit policy details can be found on our web site: http://www.uwstout.edu/regrec/audit.html

Withdrawal From Courses and Refund Information

If a course is cancelled prior to its starting date, students who have registered in advance will be notified and a refund of tuition and fees paid will automatically be processed.

Students are expected to complete courses for which they register. Occasionally conditions exist which do not permit students to carry through with their course plans. The student must notify the instructor and Outreach Services prior to withdrawal. Withdrawal from courses generates refunds based on the date the student notifies UW-Stout Outreach Services, by mail, e-mail or fax, of the withdrawal. If the student fails to notify Outreach Services and is otherwise unable to verify date of withdrawal, the date of the refund request will be used to determine the refund.

In accordance with UW-Stout’s refund policy, no refunds are issued after twenty-five percent of the class is over. If a course is dropped prior to the first class meeting, the tuition is refunded less an administrative fee of $25. For classes meeting two weeks or less, there is no refund after the first class meeting.

For spiral or self-paced courses, there is no refund after the fourth week of enrollment in the course. The first date of enrollment is determined by the date the course material is sent to the registered student.

Segregated Fees

Segregated University Fee(s) (SUF) describe charges in addition to instructional fees assessed to all students for services, programs, and facilities that support the primary mission of the University. If you would like more detailed information about segregated fees and how they are used, please click here.

United Council - This fee supports representation activities by the United Council of Student Governments of UW System institutions. Although strictly not a segregated fee, it is assessed with the segregated fee group but at a flat rate of $2.00 per student without regard to credit load.
