Application Criteria
Adjunct instructors may be employed to teach courses, make presentations, and provide facilitation or other service activity when other UW-Stout faculty is not available. Current UW-Stout personnel have the right of first refusal for any and all open positions. Appointments of adjunct instructors to on-campus teaching loads will be made through, and will be subject to existing personnel rules. An adjunct instructor teaching credit courses through UW-Extension, making non-credit presentations/workshops, or providing other (i.e. computer-based course development, graphic art production, software programming) project appointment-based work will be subject to existing personnel rules or standard memos of agreement for contractors depending upon the individual situation.
UW-Stout Department Chairs and their peer committees will review applications to qualify adjunct candidates to be included in the Pool. Individual Department Chairs and Outreach Services Program Managers may initiate additional qualification processes for individuals not pre-qualified at any time such need arises. Individuals so qualified may be added to the Adjunct Instructor Candidate Pool database for tracking purposes.
UW-Stout departments will set up their own criteria for selecting and approving candidates that may include, but is not limited to:
- A degree within the discipline an individual wishes to provide instruction.
- Significant, applied experience within the professional setting of intended instruction.
- Teaching experience and past performance.
- Publication history.
- Experience and access to the world wide web and an internet service provider.
- Empathy with an understanding of adult learner needs, and willingness to help learners grow academically and professionally.
- UW-Stout adjunct instructor development/orientation.
- Resume.
- Availability.
