Among other requirements listed below, admission to a graduate degree program also requires approval by both the Graduate School and the department sponsoring the program. Graduate applicants must submit the following materials to the Graduate School:
Complete the International Student Application for Admission. The application can be found here or completed online.
Application fee of $106
English Language Proficiency: All applicants from countries in which English is not the official language of instruction must take either the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) or the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) and have the official score sent to the Graduate Student Admissions Evaluator, unless they have completed a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree from an accredited institution in the United States, within the last five years, or have successfully completed an English as a Second Language program at an institution with which we have an agreement. The minimum acceptable scores are as follows: IELTS: 6.5, TOEFL: 70 [iBT (composite)], 523 (paper-based). Applicants with TOEFL scores under 79 [iBT (composite)], 550 (paper-based) will be required to take at least one advanced level language course through UW-Stout’s ESL program. A current student with a score of 79 (iBT) or greater or 550 or greater (paper-based) could be recommended for a language course by the program director. Individual programs may have higher minimums required; refer to the current Graduate Bulletin.
UW-Stout's school code is school code #1740. If you have successfully completed an UW-Stout's ESL Institute or an ESL program affiliated with UW-Stout (see sidebar at right), you do not have to submit these scores.
Documented evidence of sufficient financial resources and assurance that the additional funds necessary to meet all expenses for the time it takes to complete a degree program will also be available.
Official transcripts from all post-secondary schools attended (translated into English), including proof of baccalaureate and/or highest earned degree.
An undergraduate grade point average of at least 2.75 on a 4.0 scale.
