About Us

MOC serves 3,584 manufacturing enterprises in 33 counties in northern and western Wisconsin with:

  • 99% of manufacturers in these counties are small and medium-sized firms, employing fewer than 500 people
  • More than 70% employ fewer than 10 people


The UW-Stout Manufacturing Outreach Center (MOC)

  • Was established in July 1994 as part of the Federal Technology Project with the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST)/Hollings Manufacturing Extension Partnership (HMEP) as its statutory funding source
  • Formed as a partnership between the University of Wisconsin-Stout (UW-Stout) and five technical colleges—Chippewa Valley, Nicolet Area, Northcentral, Western, and Wisconsin Indianhead
  • Is headquartered at UW-Stout in Menomonie, Wisconsin and is one of numerous specialized outreach Centers within the Stout Technology Transfer Institute (STTI) housed under the UW-Stout Discovery Center

Chippewa River Industries

I can see the training CRI received from MOC as vital to CRI's future success. It opened a lot of eyes at CRI in terms of identifying waste and taking the measures to significantly reduce or eliminate it. Applying the Lean Principles we learned to one product line was a revelation in terms of the immediate positive impact this has on our operations. The MOC staff did a great job with teaching the perspective and vision one needs to have in order to properly implement these principles.
