Take2 Newscast … Welcome to UW-Stout’s Take2 weekly news update. Hi, I’m … and I’m … It’s cold and snowy outside, but there’s plenty going on indoors in the coming week on campus Take this weekend, for example: At 7:30 p.m. Friday, the hockey team hosts first-place UW-Eau Claire at the Dunn County Ice Arena. At 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. Saturday, the men’s and women’s basketball teams host UW-Platteville at Johnson Fieldhouse. All next week, Monday through Thursday from noon to 4 each day, there will be open houses for the FabLab, the Discovery Center’s new digital fabrication laboratory. We hear you can make pretty much anything in a FabLab, but find out for yourself in room 132 Applied Arts. But here’s the best part: On Wednesday, a special FabLab student open house — with free pizza — will be held from 7 to 10 p.m. Speaking of making things, Furlong Gallery is showcasing the work of 30 faculty artists this month. As part of the exhibit, three professors will discuss their works from 12:30 p.m. to 1:15 p.m. the next three Mondays at the gallery. Blue Devil Productions has two great live shows coming up On Tuesday at 8 p.m., up-and-coming Comedian Kevin Barnett of New York will perform at the Terrace. On Thursday at 8 p.m., Eclectic, high-energy rock band Taddy Porter, of Stillwater, Oklahoma, with opening act Filligar, will perform at the Terrace. At 7 p.m. on Tuesday. Stout instrumental music director Aaron Durst will hold a saxophone recital at Harvey Hall Theatre along with four guest performers. And, of course, all of these events are free. Finally, UW-Stout is mourning the death of former chancellor Robert Swanson Swanson died Sunday at age 88. He led the university from 1972 to 1988. During that time, Heritage Hall, Applied Arts and the Memorial Student Center were built and enrollment grew 43 percent. Swanson loved Stout and made the university his life’s work. He was here more than 40 years as a student, graduate student, professor and then chancellor. As a student, he served as student body president in 1949. Bob Swanson helped make UW-Stout what it is today. Have a great week Stout ###
