Students receive Samuel E. Wood Medallion, Leadership awards

Sixteen students have been named winners of the Samuel E. Wood Medallion, the highest nonacademic honor at University of Wisconsin-Stout.

The award is given annually to seniors who have been active in student activities, displayed leadership ability and excelled academically. Winners are chosen by a committee representing students, faculty and staff.

The Wood awards and Leadership Awards were presented recently at the annual Leadership Awards banquet sponsored by the Involvement Center and Stout Student Association.

Samuel E. Wood was a longtime assistant chancellor for Student Services/Dean of Students.He retired in 1991 and died in February 2013.

Undergraduates from UW-Stout received the Samuel E. Wood Medallion at a ceremony on campus.The Wood award winners, their hometowns and majors are:

·Henry Hansen, Mora, Minn., environmental science

·Laura Hanson, New Auburn, human development and family studies

·Justin Krutza, Stevens Point, information technology management

·Melissa Lemerond, Green Bay, psychology

·Juliana Lucchesi, West Allis, applied science

·Shadrack Masaki, Farmington, Minn., business administration

·Lisa Oswald, Park Falls, professional communication and emerging media

·Angela Sanchez, Beloit, hotel, restaurant and tourism management   

·Brandon Wayerski, Menomonie, business administration

Kristin Ziehl, Greenville, human development and family studies

The Leadership Award, also chosen by a committee composed of students and staff, was presented to individuals and organizations.

·Advocate of the Year, Shelby Schuppe, Fond du Lac, applied social science

·Outstanding Student Employee, Jade Roinila, Boyceville, dean's assistant in the College of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics, business administration.

·Student Staff Team or Group of the Year, Writing Center Tutors

·Adviser of the Year, Emily Ascher, Gamma Sigma Sigma

·Student Organization Event of the Year, Homecoming: Menomonie Prom, Blue Devil Productions

·Student Organization of the Year, Stout Retail Association

·Outstanding Student Leader, Shadrack Masaki
