Samantha Keller, a graphic communications student at University of Wisconsin-Stout, was recently awarded a $2,000 scholarship from the Specialty Graphic Imaging Association.

SGIA selected 10 recipients from a pool of 32 applicants nationwide based on academic achievement, demonstrated commitment to a career in graphic communications, printing technology or printing management, extracurricular activities, financial need, a one-page essay and academic and professional recommendations.

Samantha KellerKeller will use the award to help pay for her last semester at UW-Stout. She said because of the scholarship she can become more involved in organizations that support her major.

It is great that SGIA can invest in students to help them fulfill their goals, while seeing the value these students will bring in helping the industry grow in the future,” Keller said.

Keller said her major prepares students for a wide variety of career opportunities. “Every day my classes challenge me in different ways, and I am always learning something new,” she said.

The Lake City, Minn., native will graduate in December and is excited to start a career in the graphics industry. She hopes to work at a printing or marketing company in Minnesota.

“I really love finding ways to help companies grow and improve different processes,” Keller said. “I am also looking forward to connecting with different professionals and to keep learning about the ever-changing graphics industry.”

The scholarships are funded by the Specialty Graphic Imaging Foundation, SGIA’s nonprofit educational affiliate, which is supported by donations from endowment investors and industry leaders.

SGIA is a trade association for professionals in the industrial, graphic, garment, textile, electronics, packaging and commercial printing communities.
