Provost in Singapore as part of education review panel

February 6, 2012

Julie Furst-Bowe, UW-Stout provost and vice chancellor, is in southeast Asia this week to serve on an external review panel for postsecondary education.

Furst-Bowe is part of an international group, invited by the Singapore minister of education, that will conduct an on-site evaluation of the Institute of Technical Education.

“The accreditation criteria in Singapore is very similar to ours. I will be reviewing areas such as mission, governance, leadership, curriculum, faculty qualifications and student outcomes,” Furst-Bowe said.

She also will make a presentation Friday to the minister of education.

In 2003, two years after UW-Stout won the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award, a team from ITE visited Menomonie. ITE won the Singapore Quality Award in 2006, and Furst-Bowe was invited to attend the ceremony.

ITE also visited UW-Stout in 2009 to share information on best practices. ITE offers career-focused programs similar to UW-Stout, Wisconsin’s Polytechnic University.
