University Communications receives award for crisis management

December 12, 2011

University of Wisconsin-Stout Office of University Communications has been honored for its crisis management practices by the Midwest chapter of the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education (CASE).

The office received a silver certificate in the Teresa Du Bois Exline Award for Best Practices in Communications and Marketing at the CASE V annual meeting in Chicago, which ends Tuesday. The award was presented to University Communications for its crisis management practices in the handling of the assault and eventual death of a UW-Stout student in September 2010.

"Every campus should have a crisis communication policy in place, but what made this stand out was the thoughtful execution of that policy," the judges said in announcing the award. "They were honest and direct in their responses and the entry shows the professionalism of the staff."

The award documentation included the office's announcements to students and employees, news releases and other communications practices.
