Students, faculty and staff at UW-Stout are helping make the holiday season a little merrier for local children through the annual Holiday Giving Tree project.
On Friday, Dec. 6, students in the Environmental Science Profession class collected donation envelopes that previously were delivered around campus.
Donations will be used to purchase gifts for children. The level of donations will determine how many children can be helped; 100 are listed on UW-Stout's Holiday Giving Tree.
Local children living at or below the poverty level are assisted.
Children also can be sponsored individually for $40 per child, and unwrapped gifts can be dropped off by 5 p.m. Monday, Dec. 16, in room 108 of the Memorial Student Center.
To sponsor a child, use an online form or contact Mary McManus, assistant director of the Memorial Student Center, 715-232-2503.
The Holiday Giving Tree supports the Christmas for Kids program sponsored by the United Way of Dunn County. The agency anticipates receiving names for 1,200 children who, if not for the program, may not receive gifts this holiday season.
The United Way also works with local businesses and the community to collect gifts.
