Jazz from Harvey Nov. 16 highlights student, guest bands

The UW-Stout Blue Devils Jazz Band, directed Aaron M. Durst, will present a Jazz from Harvey concert at 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 16, in Harvey Hall Theatre.

The UW-Stout Jazz BandSharing the stage will be the Troppo Big Band Jazz Orchestra, a community jazz group from Chippewa Falls composed of musicians of all ages with many years of performing experience. Troppo is led by Robert Heintz Sr.

"Harvey Hall Theatre delivers an appealing atmosphere and acoustic-rich environment, ideal for an entertaining evening of jazz," Durst said.

The repertoire will feature several soloists playing in swing, ballad and funk styles to appeal to most all varieties of jazz listeners, Durst said. Music performed will emphasize jazz classics such as "Oclupaca" by Duke Ellington, "Sweet Georgia Brown" by Ben Bernies, " 'Round Midnight" by Thelonious Monk and "Boplicity" by Miles Davis.

Newer compositions that will be performed are "The Chicken," "Blues March" and "Snowfall."
