September 20, 2013

An alumnus of the art program who works for DreamWorks Animation is scheduled to speak Tuesday, Sept. 24, at UW-Stout.

Chris GrunChris Grun, who graduated in 1995 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree, will demonstrate and discuss digital painting from 10:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. in room 210 of Applied Arts. He will focus on character design and matte painting; the latter helps artists create film environments, sets and landscapes.

This event is sponsored by the School of Art and Design and the entertainment design undergraduate program.

Grun is a member of the School of Art and Design Professional Advisory Board. He began working in April as lead matte painter at DreamWorks, one of Hollywood's leading movie studios, in Glendale, Calif.

He previously was art director for six years for another leading animation company, Rhythm and Hues, where he worked on more than a dozen major motion pictures, including "Hunger Games," "Moneyball," and "Snow White and the Huntsman."
