January 8, 2013

Hundreds of thousands if not millions of chair designs exist, according to industrial design Professor Benjamin Pratt of University of Wisconsin-Stout.

Add another 25 to that list.

Stacy Halama chair designUW-Stout students will present their innovative designs Friday, Jan. 11, at Design Within Reach, 2939 Hennepin Ave. So., in Minneapolis’ Uptown neighborhood.

An opening reception with refreshments will be from 6-8 p.m. Friday. Pratt will discuss his design methodology and how he inspires his students. The chairs will be on display through 5 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 13.

The exhibit, called Sittable: UW-Stout Furniture Designs, will feature final student projects from Pratt’s class last fall.

“By encouraging students to use nontraditional materials and fine arts concepts, the furniture is as beautiful as it is interesting,” Pratt said.
