Bilingual online fair aims to reach Latino students

UW-Stout will be participating Thursday, Oct. 11, in a new online fair geared to Latino students.

As part of the Univision Virtual College Fair, UW-Stout will host a bilingual live webcast at 11 a.m. and chat hours from 3-4:30 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Melissa Perez from the UW-Stout Admissions Office will be available to answer questions in Spanish and English.

CollegeWeek Live logoUW-Stout also will have an online “booth” at the fair. When visitors stop at the site, they will see a video about the university and find links for more information about academic programs and campus life.

More than 120 schools across the country are scheduled to participate. Prospective students and their families can chat with counselors and see live presentations on various aspects of going to college. Participation is free, but students first must register at www.eselmomento.com or www.collegeweeklive.com.

The event is co-sponsored by CollegeWeek Live. UW-Stout previously has participated in CollegeWeek Live online fairs.

Latinos have a 14 percent lower college graduation rate than non-Hispanic whites, and Latinos lag behind other racial groups by 25 percent when comparing the number of degrees attained, according to EdExcelencia as cited in USA Today.
