Students invited to 30th annual Meet Menomonie business event

September 4, 2012

More than 60 businesses from Menomonie and Dunn County will be at the 30th annual Meet Menomonie event for students Wednesday, Sept. 5, at UW-Stout’s Sports and Fitness Center.

The event is from 5-7 p.m., but students should arrive by 6:30 p.m. to leave enough time to see the displays.

The event, coordinated by the Greater Menomonie Area Chamber of Commerce, also will include area nonprofit organizations, according to Toni Oas, of the chamber.

“The goal is to introduce students to area businesses and to shop local and support the local economy,” Oas said. “It gives our business community an opportunity to showcase what they offer to a targeted market.”

Meet Menomonie is primarily for new students, freshmen and transfers, but also is open to returning students.

UW-Stout’s enrollment in 2011-12 was 9,357. More than 2,500 students moved into residence halls Sunday and were expected to spend $250,000.

In addition to learning about local businesses, students can register for prizes, sample food and pick up information and gifts.
