University of Wisconsin - Stout

This program is designed to support and strengthen underrepresented minority students.

To ensure your preparation and freshmen transition to college the Stoutward Bound Program enables a cohort of accepted incoming for fall 2008 to participate in a “Jump Start” program allowing them to:

  EARN 5 college credits

BECOME oriented to college life

LEARN about the campus community first hand

FOCUS on academic achievement and success by attending real classes

IMPROVE Strategies for academic success

Students benefit from participation in a learning community for a variety of reasons including:

Developing friendships with likeminded students and faculty

Out-of-the classroom activities that reinforce classroom learning

Meaningful engagement to the campus and community

Plus…it’s a great experience!!

Students will then be prepared to transition to WEEK ONE orientation.

Students will be enrolled in two credit courses that count in your fall registration.

SPCOM100-038-Fundamentals of Speech (2credits)

GEN ED Class, either a Humanities and the Arts (3 credits) or Social and Behavioral Science (3 credits) general course.

Tuition for SPCOM and General Education will be charged to their fall financial aid package.

Students will enter their fall term with 5 credits already completed-which lightens their fall course load and allows them time for focused academics.

Students will come to campus 2 weeks early, stay in university housing, eat in university facilities and attend structured class formats Monday through Friday. There will also be activities for you to participate in. And of course you’ll have free time too.

These groups of students are assigned to a specific floor and participate in events that complement campus and classroom activities as organized around a theme.

ROOM AND BOARD ARE PAID FOR THROUGH PLAN 2008.
