Bates top graduate instructor; faculty, staff recognized

Nine faculty, four staff and one campus office have been recognized for outstanding service by University of Wisconsin-Stout.

Nine faculty, four staff and one campus office have been recognized for outstanding service by University of Wisconsin-Stout.

The winners will receive the awards Monday, Aug. 25, during a celebratory luncheon at the Fall 2014 Engagement Sessions.

Julie Bates

Julie BatesJulie Bates, an assistant professor in rehabilitation and counseling, has been named the 2013-14 Outstanding Graduate Faculty Award winner.

Comments from students who nominated her anonymously include:

“Julie Bates is the epitome of knowledge and empathy. She is a very easy person to talk to and is willing to help however she can. Julie is the definition of outstanding and is without a doubt the best professor I've ever had.”

Another student said: “Julie respects all of her students enough to make each class worth our time and our money. She teaches practical information and provides us with relevant and up-to-date readings for class. She makes sure we understand the material for class before moving on to the next topic. Overall, Julie cares about preparing us for our future clients.”

Kara James, Disability Services, will receive the Chancellor’s Academic Staff Award for Excellence.

Vickie Sanchez, student services coordinator in Multicultural Student Services, has been chosen to receive the UW-Stout 2014 Women of Color Award.She will receive the award during a UW System ceremony in October.


Eight faculty will receive the Outstanding Teaching Award:


Two staff members will receive the Outstanding Service Award:

The Outstanding Service Office Award will be given to the Counseling Center.
