A University of Wisconsin-Stout employee is one of three recipients of the UW System Academic Staff Awards for Excellence.
Susan Greene is an institutional planner in the Office of Planning, Assessment, Research and Quality. She will be honored Thursday, July 11, at the Board of Regents meeting in Madison.
The award is the UW System's highest recognition for academic staff.
Also honored will be Freda Briscoe, UW-Whitewater, director of the minority business and minority teacher preparation programs; and the UW-Platteville Distance Learning Center, led by Executive Director Dawn Drake and Director Dan Avenarius.
Greene, of Eau Claire, is the main point of contact for graduate students at UW-Stout, providing assistance with thesis research from planning methodology to assisting with data analysis and interpretation. As a result of project management tools she has implemented, the number of graduate student projects have doubled the past three years.
She developed award-winning apps to track project tasks and timelines and developed templates for standardized plans and reports. She provides similar consultations to faculty and staff and is well-known campuswide for her statistical and research expertise.
"I am proud of working at an institution that values innovation and continuous improvement while honoring the 'nobility of spirit' of all who are involved at Stout," Greene said. "My greatest joy is working directly with students, faculty and staff on their research projects. They put a great deal of time, skill and creativity into their work, and I strive to honor this by offering the best possible support to help them succeed."
Greene is credited with raising the bar on campus when it comes to using data for decision-making and has enhanced the reputation of the PARQ office both on campus and off. She has received regional and national recognition for her work, including for best practices and improving efficiency, according to Meridith Drzakowski, assistant chancellor for PARQ.
"She constantly challenges all of us to think differently about the kinds of services we provide and how we can best help students, faculty and staff be successful researchers and use data for decision-making," Drzakowski said.
According to Professor Carol Seaborn, food and nutrition department, Greene's "personal interaction with others, kindness and willingness to go above and beyond is renowned. She is a star on this campus.
"Board of Regents award committee members were Tim Higgins, Mark Tyler, Gerald Whitburn and student regent Tracy Hribar.
"These award-winners reflect the high caliber and dedication of our academic staff systemwide," said Tyler, chair of the selection committee, in a UW System news release. "Their commitment to academic quality and student success is inspiring, and we are honored to recognize their wide-ranging and significant accomplishments on behalf of our students and campus communities."

Each winner receives a $5,000 award for professional development to enhance their program or function.
Academic staff members and programs from each of the UW institutions were nominated.
