More than 100 middle school and high school students from around the region are scheduled to compete Thursday, Feb. 21, at UW-Stout in the Family, Career and Community Leaders of America Star Events Region 2 conference.
Schools competing will be Alma Center Lincoln, Augusta, Boyceville, Colfax, Durand, Eleva-Strum, Eau Claire Memorial, Eau Claire North, Eau Claire Delong Middle School, Menomonie middle and high school, Prairie Farm, Thorp and Whitehall.
Competition categories include culinary creations, focus on children, recycle and redesign, life event planning, job interview, applied technology and many more.
Winners will advance to the state competition in April in Wisconsin Dells.
The daylong event begins with an opening ceremony at 8:30 a.m. in the Memorial Student Center followed by competition at 9 a.m. in the student center and Heritage Hall until 2 p.m.
Area students also will attend workshops and hear speakers.
UW-Stout students from the family and consumer sciences education program, led by program director Diane Klemme, will volunteer with the competitions and conference, along with area consumer sciences teachers and local professionals.
The event is co-sponsored by the Stout Community Association for Career and Technical Education.
