The annual Spring Move Out has been expanded this year from one day to four and is specifically for students in off-campus housing.
The event will run from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, May 13, through Thursday, May 16, in Parking Lot 29, at the intersection of 13th Avenue and Third Street E. Students can donate furniture, clothing, nonperishable food and miscellaneous household items.
Final exams end Wednesday, May 15.
“We’re asking students to donate rather than dump their unwanted items. They can leave the city a little cleaner and help area residents at the same time,” said Arthur Kneeland, an instructor in the biology department who is coordinating the event.
All usable items will be given to United Way of Dunn County. Food items will be given to the local Stepping Stones food pantry.
In past years about two truckloads of items have been collected for donation.
Sponsors are the Stout Student Association, Inter-Residence Hall Association, Sustainability Office, City of Menomonie, United Way of Dunn County, Dunn County Health Department, Dunn County Solid Waste/Recycling, Sustainable Dunn, American Edge Real Estate and Veolia ES Solid Waste Midwest.
