STOUT LIBRARY CATALOG

Use the Stout Library Catalog to identify materials in this library on children's literature. Some useful headings to use in a Subject search are:

The Stout Library Catalog can be set to search the Educational Materials Center only, which is where the children's and young adult literature are located in the Library.

  1. Connect to the Stout Library Catalog.
  2. Click on the Keyword-Guided search.
  3. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click on the Set Limits button.
  4. From the Location drop down menu, select Educational Materials Center, scroll down and click on the Set Limits button again. "Search limits are in effect!" appears.
  5. Enter your keywords or phrase in the Search for box(es) using "all of these" or "as a phrase" as appropriate.
  6. Click on Search.

This limited search is useful for identifying and locating the Caldecott and Newbery Award books which the library owns. Searches to enter are:

The Stout Library Catalog can be set to search the EMC Young Adult Collection only.

  1. Connect to the Stout Library Catalog.
  2. Click on the Keyword-Guided search.
  3. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click on the Set Limits button.
  4. From the Location drop down menu, select Educational Materials Center Young Adult Collection , scroll down and click on the Set Limits button again. "Search limits are in effect!" appears.
  5. Enter your keywords or phrase in the Search for box(es) using "all of these" or "as a phrase" as appropriate.

To identify lists of children's books and lists of books about children's literature, use the subject heading CHILDREN'S LITERATURE BIBLIOGRAPHY in the Stout Library Catalog. Some specialized bibliographies are: Included here are sites which provide illustrations of historical children's books.

The Library's Educational Materials Center (EMC) has all Caldecott and Newbery Award winning books in its Juvenile Collection, and many of the honor books. Search for books in the EMC.

Additional Library materials can be identified by searching the Stout Library Catalog doing a SUBJECT search: CHILDREN'S LITERATURE BIBLIOGRAPHY. Look for titles that deal with multiculturalism or ethnic groups. Also try: a KEYWORD search for minorities AND children's literature.
