Internet Explorer (IE) is the Internet browser used on the library's computers. The following procedures must be used for printing, e-mailing, and saving, or problems will subsequently occur. Educational Resource Information Center (ERIC) Search
ERIC, the Educational Resource Information Center, contains citations and abstracts from both education journals and documents, such as, curriculum guides and conference proceedings. An EJ accession number categorizes its journal citations. An ED accession number categorizes citations to its educational documents.
The advanced search used in conjunction with the Refine Search tab is powerful because the search may be limited to search for only journals, for only documents, by educational level, by publication type (ex:curriculum guides, theses), etc.
Step 1 - Start at the Library Home Page (http://www.uwstout.edu/lib/)
Step 2 -Select Indexes and Databases.
Step 3 - Select EBSCOhost under Major Vendors.
Step 4 - Select EBSCOhost Web.
Step 5 - Place a check mark next to ERIC.

- By Journal or Document, highlight Journal Articles
- Do not limit by full text when searching ERIC journals. Only the documents are full text in ERIC. Full text for ERIC journals are only available through the HTML links, PDF links or Find it! linking service; marking the Full Text option can eliminate that option.
- Click Search at the top of the page
- Ex: Search for Documents Only (ex:curriculum guides)
- In the Find search box, type a keyword or phrase (ex: bullying)
- Proceed to the Refine Limits menu under the search boxes.
- By Journal or Document, highlight Document
- By Publication Type, highlight Guides - Classroom Teacher (Other publication types are available.)
- Click Search at the top of the page.

- Ex: Document Number Search
- Every document in ERIC has a 6-digit accession number, starting with ED. Many ED documents are full text online. This accession number can be searched in ERIC.
- In Advanced Search, type the accession number into the search box ERIC Number (ex: ED477608)
- Immediately to the right, pull down the menu (down arrow) and select AN Accession Number (Note several other options!)

This symbol indicates restricted library resources for use by UW-Stout students, faculty and staff.
When accessing library resources using an Internet Service Provider (ISP) such as America Online, Airstream or a local provider, a username and password prompt will appear.
