Bud and Betty Micheels

Student Artist-in-Residence Grant

The Bud and Betty Micheels Student Artist-In-Residence program provides an opportunity for;
students of all majors to explore the relationship of art and technology, Recipients of this grant
receive a $2000 stipend for the academic year, up to $1000 account for materials/related expenses,
and an appropriate work space. Award winners are honored by a year-end exhibition of their work
in the University Library, and one piece is donated for the permanent collection. The Student
Artist-in-Residence Program is a valuable learning experience for all recipients and a continuous
and growing aesthetic resource for the University of Wisconsin-Stout and the community.

The program was initially funded through a grant from the Stout University Foundation in 1987.
Bud and Betty Micheels provided continued generous support for this program. Dr. Micheels was
president of Stout State University, now the University of Wisconsin-Stout, and Mrs. Micheels was
an avid patron of the arts throughout her life. Although both are now deceased, they have left the Student Artist's program as their legacy.
