World Wide Web Resources
Search engines are automated key word searching robots that look at the full text of web pages to search for the words entered. Results are usually in relevance order (or by the most used), with some of the best choices first.
Subject directories, like Yahoo Directory, have browsable subject categories. Keyword searching looks for words in the named subject categories, titles or abstracts of Web sites. The results list is smaller than when using search engines.
No search engine or subject directory is comprehensive! There is overlap, but each covers unique sites. Try several engines or directories. Use Searching the Web for a wide listing of search engines.
In addition to Searching the Web, look at Stout library's Subject and Reference Guides for subject related web resources.
