Magazine and Journal Articles
Use indexes to identify magazine and journal articles. Most periodical indexes are available via the web. Search by key words describing your topic. You will receive a list of citations to published articles and often the full text as well.
It is also important to understand when you should use journal articles and when magazine articles are acceptable sources.

- Access
- UW-Stout community has free access to these indexes.
- Off-campus, enter your UW-Stout e-mail user name and password when prompted.
- Choosing which index to use
- Indexes page:
Major vendor sites are listed on the left.
- Many vendors have a variety of specialized indexes.
- EbscoHost is a good starting place for most topics.
- Check mark Academic Search Elite and Masterfile Premier for general coverage of a wide variety of topics.
- Add any other specialized indexes that apply.
- Indexes page: Subject List (in the center) is used to identify specialized subject indexes. Click on a subject for a list of indexes. The bolded titles are the most popular choices. Click a title to go directly to the vendor's site.
- Indexes page: Alpha List of databases (on the right) lists all of the periodical indexes and databases in the University Library, including online and CD-ROM formats.

is a gateway for searching for articles and books at the same
time. You can design custom search categories using a variety of periodical
indexes and the Stout Library Catalog.

full-text. It tells if the library owns the periodical, or if the article
