Education
Jana's first thoughts of the library world were while twice reading The World Book Encylopedia, cover to cover, during one-room schoolhouse days. Another memoriable reading moment was learning about The Birds & The Bees from Webster's New World Dictionary.
She completed undergraduate work in English Education and Library Science at Wayne (NE) State College. Her graduate library degree is from the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities and her Ed. Specialist degree in Library Research from UW-Madison. Before coming to Stout, she was a public school librarian.
Jana says she's been at UW-Stout "a while" ... since 1982 to be more exact.
Responsibilities
Jana is the Reference Work Group Leader who, along with eight other librarians, provides reference service for the Stout Community. Among her responsibilities is library instruction for graduate research students. Since Fall 2004, she is also Distance Learning Librarian and is thrilled to provide library outreach. Recent projects include creating a web-based version of the popular Thesis Survival Skills Workshop; co-producing Celebrating the Past...Embracing the Future for the Library's 100th Anniversity; presenting library research skills, in streaming video, for a new on-line graduate program.
