University Archives and Area Research Center

About the University Archives/Area Research Center

The Area Research Center at the University of Wisconsin-Stout is a cooperative project of the State Historical Society and UW-Stout. It is part of a network of fourteen such centers throughout Wisconsin.  The Area Research Center maintains historic materials related to Barron, Dunn and Pepin counties and provides public research hours for its collections.  Collection materials include public county, township, and city records; letters; diaries; local histories;maps; and photographs.

The Center also serves as the University Archives for UW-Stout.  The University Archives was created to preserve historical records of the University of Wisconsin-Stout, facilitate efficient records management of the records, and serve researchers of historical collections. The collection of the University Archives consists of historically valuable records from campus departments and office, personal papers of Stout faculty, students, and alumni, records of Stout organizations, and many of the university's publications.  University Archives materials are searchable via the Stout Library Catalog and online databases created by the Archives.
