World War I World War II Korean War Vietnam conflict
Fred A. Fischer was a very active student following his enrollment at Stout. A native of Minneapolis, Fisher was a member of the Stout Radio Club, Epsilon Pi Tau, Rifle Club, Ski Club, and president of the Symphonic Singers. He was also a member of the naval reserve. Shortly after his graduation in 1952, at the height of the Korean War, the Navy called Fischer up for service. On November 6, less than six months after he graduated from Stout, Ensign Fischer died as a result of injuries at the U.S. Naval Hospital in Yokosuka, Japan. Thanks to a gift of money presented by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Hugo Fischer, the Fred Fischer Memorial Loan Fund was established at Stout in 1953.
