Library Instruction Lab Use (Room 111)

The Library Instruction Lab is maintained by the UW-Stout University Library for the primary purpose of library and information literacy instruction for UW-Stout students.

Faculty and teaching staff are strongly encouraged to schedule library and information literacy instruction within the first two weeks of any class term.  After this time, other UW-Stout units are permitted to request lab use and the room will be scheduled on a first come, first served basis.  However, absolutely no fixed, recurrent sessions within one semester (e.g. "every Tuesday at 3:00") will be accommodated in order to preserve the lab's primary purpose.

Scheduling requests should be emailed to Jessy Polzer.  Be sure to wait for confirmation of scheduled time before advertising.

Hardware and Software

The lab is equipped with:

  • 22 desktop computers loaded with all UW-Stout software
  • teaching station with desktop computer (and laptop attachments)
  • projector, screen and audio speakers
  • 2 large whiteboards (markers not provided)

Lab computers require a logon using a UW-Stout email user name. Outside groups can be accommodated with temporary passwords.  Email a request for temporary passwords to Susan Lindahl a minimum of 1 week in advance of room use.  Note that temporary passwords do not include access to keyserver software.

Software may be loaded from the web or from a CD provided it does not require the computer to be restarted in order to run, as lab computers are protected by SmartShield and will revert to original settings when restarted.  It is the responsibility of the teaching group to schedule extra time the day of the session to load software. It is advisable to complete a test load at the time you reserve the room for use.

Special hardware or software considerations can be sent to Susan Lindahl.
