Skövde University, founded in 1977, is located in the center of the city of Skövde and is one of the newest universities in Sweden with an enrollment of about 2,600 students. Similar to UW-Stout, Skövde has a mission of educating students for careers in business and industry with several cross-disciplinary programs.  Many of its courses use case studies to link learning to the practical needs of industry and society. The University of Skövde is located in the center of the city. The campus area has kept its old time charm with modern architecture. Both students and instructors in Sweden are generally fluent in English.

Skövde, Sweden

map of SwedenSkövde is situated in between Sweden's two biggest lakes, Vänern and Vättern. The town has about 50 000 residents and more than one fifth of the population are students. From Skövde you have easy access to many cities in Sweden, approximately one hour to Gothenburg and two hours to Stockholm by train. The travel centre called 'Resecentrum' gives access to county transit buses, the high-speed train X2000 and InterCity trains.

The city and neighboring region offer many recreational activities and sports including hiking, soccer, fishing, and skiing. Museums, theaters, musical events, and historical sites provide opportunities for entertainment as well as learning about Swedish history and culture. There are several shopping malls and specialty shops and Skövde is the location of a new Volvo engine plant employing over 4,000 workers. While Swedish is the native language, most people speak English as a second language.

You can apply for a passport at the Clerk of Court’s office at any local county government center. More information on residence permit requirements is available from the Office of International Education.
