Program Description
During the summer of 2008, Arnhem Business School is offering an intensive course on Crossing Economic Borders; Doing Business in Europe. The program takes place in both Nijmegen and Arnhem and is designed to develop and strengthen your business competences; knowledge, skills and professional attitude. HAN University (Hogeschool van Arnhem en Nijmegen) is a university with over 23,000 students and approx. 2,500 staff and ranks among the top 10 of universities of professional education in the Netherlands.
The first week of class starts includes introductions to Dutch and European Culture and Economy with a visit to a large bicycle manufacturer called Gazelle. During this site visit you actively participate in advising the company in defining their export strategy. In groups you will work out a more detailed executive paper on this subject and present this to a representative of Gazelle. Finally, you will visit the European Container Terminal in the Port of Rotterdam, the second largest harbor in the world.
The second week includes different seminars in European Logistics, Consumer Behavior and Business Law, which will be assessed in a written exam. To incorporate a European dimension into the program, a general manager from the multinational enterprise Akzo Nobel is invited to give his view on the company’s European light. You will visit the neighboring German Ruhrgebiet and are invited by the German University of Duisburg-Essen for a seminar on Economic Development in the Ruhrgebiet.
In the third week, you will work together with other Dutch and international students in a ‘management team’; making executive decisions in multicultural groups; applying your business knowledge, business skills and professional attitude. Presentations determine the best performers in this exercise and at the farewell dinner you receive your final grades and course certificate.
