Program Description

map of IrelandLimerick is a city located in the Midwestern section of Ireland. The city lies on the River Shannon with three main rossing points near the center of the city. The population of Limerick is 93,321, which ranks as the third largest city in Ireland. The city dates back to early Viking settlements. The Normans redesigned the city in the 12th century and added much of the most notable architecture such as King John's Castle and St Mary's Cathedral.

Courses

The University of Limerick offers 66 four-year primary degree programs in the following areas: Business, Education, Engineering, Humanities, Informatics and Electronics, Science and Interdisciplinary courses.
Under this program, students can undertake a course of study for one semester or for an academic year. Students select their programs from the existing discipline and module base so that these students take five modules each semester with a credit weighting of 3 credits per module, or 15 per semester.

Estimated Costs

Students will pay a program fee to UW-Stout to cover the cost of tuition, health insurance, service and contingency fees, and laptop fees. All other expenses, including airfare, housing, meals and personal expenses are paid directly by students. Eligible students can use their financial aid to help pay these expenses. Costs are subject to change and can vary due to exchange rates, host institution increases, travel to, from and within the host country, and personal spending habits.

Eligibility

Students must be at least sophomore status, have a GPA of 2.9, and be in good academic standing at the time of participation.

Housing and Meals

Students enrolled in UL may choose to live on campus in one of the five Student Villages. There are approximately 2,500 rooms available on campus. Students also have the possibility of living off campus in shared accommodation that includes self-catering houses and apartments. Most off-campus accommodation is located within walking distance of the university campus. Campus Accommodation is reserved for International students each year.  Students apply to the International Education office.  It is an excellent option for International students as you get an opportunity to meet Irish students and other nationalities and to enjoy all our superb campus has to offer. i.e. sports facilities and clubs and societies activities.

Students will be responsible for making their own meals. Both the residence halls and private accommodations have kitchens available for making meals. There is a variety of cafés and bars where students can purchase meals. The University of Limerick’s Student Union runs a small food store on campus and sells fruit, vegetables, frozen foods, dairy, and also has a delicatessen section where sandwiches and rolls are made to order, along with hot food.

Passport/Visa

All students must have a valid U.S. passport for entrance into Ireland. The current passport fee is $100. If students already have a US passport, they must make sure to check the dates of validity. It must be valid for six months beyond the return date to the US.

Application Procedures

Please make an appointment with the Office of International Education (OIE), 400 Bowman Hall, to review and receive the application materials. Completed forms are returned to OIE. A $100 nonrefundable application fee is paid to the Student Business Services Office located in the Administration Building at time of application. Once accepted by UW-Stout, a $200 nonrefundable service fee will be required to hold a place in the program.
