Program Description
University of Wisconsin-Stout students majoring in Art and Design, Apparel Design and Development, or any major now have an opportunity to gain international experience studying color in France. The Color Studio course is designed to develop student awareness of color sensibilities by studying color and geography and exploring the varied light qualities of Paris and Southern France. Students will develop an understanding for the physical properties of color, the major schools of thought, and influential color theorists. Learning will also be enhanced through applied color design exercises. Highlights include visits to the studios of renowned artists and designers, places which would not be accessible to regular tourists. Students will also visit Notre Dame, the Louvre, the Musée d’Orsay, Sacre Coeur, and the infamous Montmartre neighborhood, Art Nouveau stores, and the Champ-Elysées. Students will enjoy excursions to Giverny, Nice, and Aix-en Provence to experience the locations that inspired color work of Monet, Matisse, Cezanne, and numerous others. The group will arrive in Paris, exploring all corners of the city for two weeks, with a long weekend in the southern region of France on the French Riviera.
France
Class will take place throughout the city of Paris and locations in Southern France and the French Riviera. Paris is one of the great design capitals of the world with centuries of artists and designers passing through its great streets. Designers such as Daniel Buren, Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec, Coco Chanel, Christian Dior, Yves Saint-Laurent, and Philippe Starck hail from France, and artists from Piet Mondrian to Auguste Rodin found inspiration in this rich cultural environment. Students will visit culturally and chromatically relevant sites during the two week study.
Courses
Upon successful completion, students will receive three credits for this program. Students will enroll in course number ART-256-0S1.
