Program Description
Students who wish to take Organizational Leadership (INMGT 400/600) or Global Study Tour (INMGT 462/662) now have an opportunity to gain international experience studying in Finland with Professor Donna Stewart for 2 weeks at the end of May 2009.
The Organizational Leadership course (INMGT 400/600) is required for University of Wisconsin-Stout students majoring in Business Administration, Management, Engineering Technology, Packaging, Construction, Information and Communication Technologies, and others. The course will provide an overview of leadership theory, self assessment of students' leadership ability and the development of leadership development plan for the future. Additionally, concepts of organizational and individual behavior will serve as a foundation for the development of such leadership skills as communication, motivation, initiating change, team building, delegation, building credibility, and conflict management.
For those students taking Global Study Tour (INMGT 462/662) the goal will be to visit global sites to understand the current state of product design, manufacturing, and distribution internationally. Students will learn how to develop supplier, manufacturing, and distribution systems in a global setting. These goals will be met through independent readings, participation in several site visits, and completion of a paper on a topic of student’s choice.
Benefits of Studying in Finland
Students will visit several Finnish businesses and local attractions with an optional trip to Helsinki. There will be much flexibility in the schedule to visit attractions students are interested in, with students working in groups to plan excursions in the Tampere region. The class will be visiting Finnish companies to get their perspective on Organizational Leadership.
Finland
Class will take place at Tampere Polytechnic University (TAMK) in the City of Tampere, Finland. Tampere is the third largest city in Finland with over 200,000 inhabitants in Tampere, and almost 300,000 inhabitants in Tampere Suburbs. Tampere’s city center is on an isthmus between lakes Pyhäjärvi and Näsijärvi surrounded by lake and ridge scenery. The Tammerkoski River runs through the city.
Courses
Upon successful completion, students will receive three credits for this program. Students will enroll in course number INMGT-400/600-0S1 (Organizational Leadership) or 462/662-OS1(Global Study Tour).
Estimated Costs
Students will pay a program fee to UW-Stout to cover the cost of tuition and fees, health insurance, international student ID card, housing, meals, flight, program tours, and ground transportation. Passport fees, additional meals, and personal expenses are paid directly by the students. Eligible students can use their financial aid to help pay these expenses. Need based scholarships are available to eligible Wisconsin residents.
