Program Description

Westminster Business School is a major provider of high quality business education located in the heart of London. The Business School has approximately 4,000 students pursuing a wide range of general and specialist qualifications at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Courses are taught by more than 120 staff members plus a large number of visiting lecturers and experts drawn from the London business community.

The school is highly cosmopolitan, reflecting London’s demographic diversity and its role as a host to visitors from around the world. A third of Westminster’s full-time students come from abroad, and every year the school welcomes hundreds of visiting exchange students from continental Europe, the United States, Australia, and Japan. Westminster’s staff is increasingly international, welcoming visiting scholars and researchers from many countries.

Westminster processes a long tradition of part-time management education for Londoners, stretching back for more than 70 years. Today, Westminster continues to serve the development needs of busy professionals from around the world. The school’s strong links with the London business and government community enables Westminster to bring practitioners and headline-makers into the classroom on a regular basis. Westminster also offers customized courses and workshops for business and other clients. The School has a growing research and consultancy strength in a range of areas, including Marketing Communication, Human Resources Management, Labor Market Analysis, and International Finance. Westminster hosts conferences, workshops, seminars, and other events open to the public and regard the dissemination of new ideas to the outside world as an important part of Westminster’s function.

London, England

The University of Westminster is located at London’s center, situated in the well-known West End. Within a few minutes one can be sitting at a street café, browsing through secondhand book shops on Charing Cross Road, or shopping at the elegant Regent and Bond Streets. Oxford Street, which is London’s busiest shopping center, is also just around the corner from the University’s Regent Street building. London is a city of culture and arts. One can enjoy several museums and galleries, take in world renown theater performances, or watch the street theater in Covent Garden. Along with New York and Tokyo, London is one of the three most important hubs of the global economy and, within Westminster itself, lies the Houses of Parliament—the seat of British Government. The University occupies three campuses in addition to its Harrow Campus, which is close to the International Student House and other international organizations. The University of Westminster is one of Britain’s largest universities, with more than 22,000 full and part-time students. There are over 3,500 international students studying at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. The Students’ Union runs many societies (i.e. the International Student Society) covering cultural and religious interests as well as sporting and social activities.

Courses

Courses are catered to Business Students. Study abroad students take 4 courses of 3 credits. Internships are also possible.

Estimated Costs

Students will pay a program fee to UW-Stout to cover the cost of tuition and fees, health insurance, and International Student ID Card.  Meals, housing, WSB application fee, airfare, passport fees, and personal expenses are paid directly by the students.  Eligible students can use their financial aid to help pay these expenses.  Need based scholarships are available to eligible Wisconsin residents.

Eligibility

This exchange program is open to all University of Wisconsin-Stout Business Administration students. Courses are transferable from Westminster’s
Business School to fulfill their degree requirements at Stout. Students must be at junior status with a 2.5 GPA, or above. Applicants will also need their program director’s approval and one letter of recommendation from a Business Administration faculty member.

Housing and Meals

The University of Westminster offers two housing options for international students. University resident halls are the most economical of the two options. Resident halls also remain open during holidays, which are typically used as a base for students traveling to other parts of Britain and Europe while on break. However, some students prefer private rented accommodations. Private accommodations are more expensive than resident halls. Westminster recommends two weeks to find suitable accommodation if one chooses this type of housing. No meal plans are available at Westminster, so students should budget approximately $110 per week for meals. It is also recommended that students consider sharing food and meals with others to help cut meal costs.

Passport/Visa

Students make their own travel arrangements to England. Students have the option of traveling within the United Kingdom and Europe before the program begins or ends, depending on the term’s start and end dates. Students need a passport to study in the United Kingdom for one semester. Additional immigration/travel information is available at the Office of International Education (OIE).

Application Procedures

Please make an appointment with the Office of International Education (OIE), 400 Bowman Hall, to review and receive the application materials. Completed forms are returned to OIE. A $100 nonrefundable application fee is paid to the Student Business Services Office located in the Administration Building at time of application. Once accepted by UW-Stout, a $200 nonrefundable service fee will be required to hold a place in the program.
