Program Description
Lancaster University has won international recognition for the quality of its teaching and research. Lancaster University is located in North West England. With a view of the sea, the campus is surrounded by the beautiful English countryside, yet is only three miles away from the bustling city of Lancaster, England. The University is a self-contained university, which means that the campus includes academic, residence, sports, social, and recreational facilities in one location. The campus is also a convenient distance to grocery stores, hairdressers, bakeries, bookstores, and other shops. The school is ranked 2nd in management schools in the United Kingdom, and 8th in research. It is also considered one of the world’s best Social Sciences University. The student population at Lancaster is about 11,000, with over 1,500 international students from over 100 countries. Lancaster is one of the safest campuses in the UK and has one of the lowest costs of living. Students have been studying abroad at Lancaster University since 1968. Lancaster, England
Lancaster is a city in North West England. Lying along the course of the River Lune, it has a total resident population of 45,952. Lancaster Castle, built in the 13th century, stands on the site of a Roman garrison and is well-known as the site of the infamous Pendle witch trials in 1612. Many buildings in the city center date from the 1800s. The port was one of the busiest in the UK at that time. The city has a substantial shopping center, with two shopping centers and several pedestrian thoroughfares. A market takes place twice weekly, on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Throughout the year, various festivals are held in and around the city, such as the Lancaster Jazz Festival and The Maritime Festival.
Courses
Lancaster University offers a few different course schedule options. The Full Year option runs from October to June and is three terms, each lasting 10 weeks for a total of 32 credits. The partial year options include Lancaster’s Michaelmas term, running from October to December with a typical course-load of 12 credits; and, Lancaster’s Spring Semester which is two 10 week terms running back to back from January to June, for a total of 16-20 credits.

Estimated Costs
Students will pay a program fee to UW-Stout to cover the cost of tuition, health insurance, service and contingency fees, and laptop fees. All other expenses, including housing, personal expenses, visa fees, meals and travel are paid directly by students. Eligible students can use their financial aid to help pay these expenses. Costs are subject to change and can vary due to exchange rates, host institution increases, travel to, from and within the host country, and personal spending habits.

Eligibility
Students must be at least sophomore status at time of participation and have a GPA of 2.0. Internships require a 3.0 GPA.
Housing and Meals
Lancaster University guarantees student housing for study abroad candidates. Lancaster’s student housing is broken into eight different residences that are called, colleges. Each residence has its own unique social atmosphere and recreational life. The residences all have reading rooms, snack bars, game rooms, organized dinners, dances, and seasonal social events. The majority of the on-campus rooms are private and have their own shower, sink and toilet. Telephone and internet access is available in all student rooms. All rooms have shared kitchen facilities and there are several laundry facilities available on campus. There is no comprehensive meal plan, but the campus has a number of options including, coffee and snack bars, a fish and chip shop, Chinese and Indian restaurants, pizzeria, and a bakery.
Passport/Visa
Students make their own travel arrangements to England. When making travel arrangements, book a direct flight to England. Depending on the starting and ending date of the term, students may have the option of traveling in the UK before as well as after the end of the program. Students will need to have a passport and Entrance Clearance (visa) to study in England. The current passport fee is $100 and the cost for Entry Clearance is $208 (subject to change). Application Procedures
Students will then need to make an appointment with the Office of International Education (OIE), 400 Bowman Hall, to review and receive application materials. Completed forms are returned to OIE. At time of application, a $100 nonrefundable application fee is paid to the Student Business Services Office located in the Administration Building at time of application. Once accepted by UW-Stout, a $200 nonrefundable service fee will be required to hold a place in the program.
