Program Description
London College of Fashion (LCF) is the only college in the UK to specialize in fashion education, research and consultancy. With an international reputation for fashion education, we offer a unique portfolio of courses from fashion design and technology, management and marketing to communication, promotion and image creation. LCF’s aim is to reflect the breadth of opportunity available in this vibrant industry. Colleges located throughout the city, students of University of the Arts London are members of an inspiring, multi-cultural and diverse environment. The study abroad program at the London College of Fashion (LCF) is a self contained program of 50-100 international students. Students complete the program as a cohort and are not integrated with other degree seeking LCF students. The college was founded in 1906 and is part of the University of the Arts London, Europe’s largest university built around art, design, communication, fashion and the performing arts. London College of Fashion has been offering programs to international students for over 20 years. More information can be found on the internet at the LCF website below: http://www.fashion.arts.ac.uk/
London, England
The program takes place in the center of London, the capital city of England. A city of 7.5 million people, London is known for its several prime fashion districts such as Soho, Bond Street, Brick Lane and Covent Garden. Of the six campuses that make up LCF, two are in the retail district of Oxford Street- an area known to locals and tourists as a primary retail location. Among several attractions throughout London, the LCF campuses are within commuting distance to destinations such as the Victoria and Albert Museum, the National Gallery, the Design Museum, and several fashion neighborhoods. Visits to these attractions round out the experience of studying fashion in the heart of the international fashion capital. London’s public transit system also offers opportunities to visit every corner of London. As one of the world’s major hubs, London has museums, culture and entertainment unparalleled by any other place in the world. If you are looking for a true big city experience, London is the best place study abroad. Its location also makes it ideal for visiting the rest of the UK and Europe.
Courses
During the semester or summer students will take 12 credits. Students will choose specifically tailored apparel design courses. A meeting with the Apparel Design and Development program director is advised for confirmation of credit transfer. A one credit internship is also available. Placements occur after arrival to LCF where students are interviewed by the Internship Coordinator and Study Abroad Director for appropriate placement. A trip to Paris is also part of the program at LCF during summer and semester options. It is included in the summer program fees; however it is optional for the semester experience. Participation in the trip is highly recommended. A portfolio of your experience will be required upon return to UW-Stout. The ADD program director or your advisor can advise more thoroughly of the portfolio expectations.
