Program Description
The AIU study abroad program is designed for students who want an opportunity to gain international experience studying and living in central London while earning credit toward graduation at UW-Stout. Study abroad participants are integrated into the classroom with degree seeking students from over 100 different countries. Most classes are taught by instructors from Britain and the U.S. This multinational learning environment provides an ideal setting to gain an awareness of global issues and perspectives. The self-confidence and knowledge a student gains from this experience will be a valuable asset when they graduate and begin their career. AIU offers a wide choice of courses so students in any major can usually find courses to fit their degree program. Students in Art and Interior Design, Apparel Design and Development, Retailing, and General Business will find a large selection of courses in their majors. Many general education courses are also available. After completing the semester, credits earned at AIU will be transferred back to UW-Stout for pre-approved credit in the student’s program. AIU is a U.S. accredited international university located in the heart of London within walking distance of Hyde Park, Buckingham Palace and other historic sites and museums. About 25% of its student body comes from the U.S. with another 28% from Europe. Almost half come from Asia, Africa, South America and the Middle East. Like UW-Stout, many of the university’s courses are vocationally oriented and targeted toward the world of work. The campus is made up of seven buildings that house small lecture rooms, design studios, photography labs, video production facilities, a computer center and library.
Courses/Internship
All students enroll in three courses, (two courses for the 5-week summer sessions) at AIU and receive four transfer credits per course from UW-Stout. Students can take an additional course (10 week term only) for an additional fee. Students can also apply for an internship as a substitute for one of their courses. AIU classes typically meet four times per week for lectures or seminar presentations. Students will find the methods of instruction are fairly similar to what they experience at UW-Stout.
AIU offers nearly 300 courses in the following fields: Business: Marketing and Management, Retailing, Fashion Design/, Marketing, Public Relations, Economics, Visual Communication, Graphic Design, Photography, Media Production, Interior Design, Painting/Art History, Psychology, and General Education/ Liberal Arts.
