Program Description
Students who wish to take Organizational Leadership (INMGT 400/600) now have an opportunity to gain international experience studying in China with Dr. Donna Stewart and Dr. David Ding for 2 weeks at the end of May 2010.
The course will provide an overview of leadership thory, self-assesment of students' leadership ability and the development of a leadership plan for the future. Students will visit several local Chinese and international companies to meet with top managers. Business site visits include Pepsi China, Tropicana, Beijing Air Catering Company, Chich Food, Qinui Transportation, Huizhou Dentist and Red Fox Distribution.
China
Home to 7 million people, Hong Kong is one of the most densley populated areas in the world. A global metrpolitain and international finance center, Hong Kong has a highly developed capitalist economy. The Hong Kong Stock Exchange is the sixth largest in the world and is second to London with the highhest value of initial public offerings. Once a large industrial nation, Hong Kong is now largely dominated by the service sector.
Located on the Pearl River, Guangzhou is 75 miles northwest of Hong Kong and home to over 6 million residents. Guangzhou is the main manufacturing hub and the leading commericial and manufacturing region.
Beijing, the capital of the People's Republic of China, is located in northern China. Home to more than 17 million people, Beijing is the second largest city in China. Supported by the finance, automobile and real estate industries, Beijing is one of the most developed cities in China.
Class will take place at Guangdong University of Foreign Studies in Guangzhou and Tsinghua University located in Beijing.
Courses
students will participate in meetings and complete short assignments prior to departure. Upon successful completion, students will receive 3 credits in
- INMGT-400/600-0S1 (Organizational Leadership) OR
- INMGT 399/499 (Independent Study)
Estimated Costs
The program cost will be determined by the number of participants shortly after the application deadline. The program cost includes tuition and fees, health insurance, internatioanl student ID card, housing in Cancun, local transportation, flight and some meals.
Passport fees, additional meals, and personal expenses are not included in the program costs and are paid directly by the student.
Eligible students can use their financial aid to help pay these expenses. Need based scholarships are available to eligible Wisconsin residents. If using financial aid for this experience, make sure to contact your financial aid counselor at the start of the fall semester if additional funding is needed.

Eligibility
This program is open to undergraduate or graduate students in Business Administration, Management, Engineering Technology, Packaging, Construction, Information and Communication Technologies, or any other major requiring Organizational Leadership or Global Study Tour. Applicants must be at least a sophomore, have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.0, and be in good academic standing at time of participation. Students must also go through a background check and be cleared by the Dean of Students.
Housing and Meals
Students will be staying 3-4 star in hotels in China. Students will be responsible for purchasing daily meals.
Passport/Visa
All students must have a valid U.S. passport for entrance into China. The current passport fee is $100. Students will also be required to apply for a visa. Keep in mind that you will need to have already obtained a passport in order to successfully apply for a visa. If students already have a passport, they must check the dates of validity. It must be valid for six months beyond the return date to the U.S.
Application Procedures
Please make an appointment with the Office of International Education (OIE), 400 Bowman Hall, to review and receive the application materials. Completed forms are returned to OIE. A $100 non-refundable application fee is paid to the Student Business Services Office located in the Administration Building at time of application. Once accepted by UW-Stout, a $200 non refundable service fee will be required to hold a place in the program.
