Checking for Low Travel Fares

We advise working with a travel agent of your choice to search out low fares for your travel. However, you may want to try these sites and compare the fares with those of your travel agent.

• STA Travel
  Offers discounted fares to students with International ID Cards. Site allows students to check for low air fares to destinations of their choice.

• Yahoo Travel | Expedia.com
  These sites allows you to search for and purchase low airfares, hotels, rental cars and other services in many parts of the world.

Currency Converters

• The Universal Currency Converter
  Allows you to perform interactive foreign exchange rate calculations using live, up-to-the-minute currency rates.

• The Currency Site
  A source of foreign exchange services and online tools -- provides currency conversion information and services to travelers, investors and businesses worldwide.

Electricity Adapters and Converters

• The Travel Oasis Site
  A resource for determining the proper electrical adapters needed abroad. An adaptor for your laptop computers will be provided by the university at an orientation session before you leave. You will be responsible for adaptors for your other electrical appliances.

Other Study Abroad Sites

• University of Wisconsin Campuses
  This site will allow you to click on the websites of all the universities in Wisconsin. From there you can locate their international programs home page for information on study abroad.

• Study Abroad.com
  This site allows you to search programs offered by U.S. and foreign universities and various for profit groups.

• CIEE Programs
  The Council on International Educational Exchange offers opportunities to study at universities in Africa, Asia, Australia, South America, Russia and Europe. All the programs are accredited and conducted through U.S. universities and their partner institutions abroad. These programs are generally more expensive than those through UW-Stout.

• Study Abroad Directory
  Search through thousands of international academic programs, university study abroad programs, overseas universities, and language schools around the world. This site provides comprehensive international education and alternative travel databases. In addition to some of the largest directories of their kind on the Internet, the site provides extensive additional information within its travel guides, currency converter, and embassy directories.
