The State of Wisconsin has appropriated funds to assist students with financial need to study abroad. The eligibility criteria, grant amounts, application procedures and deadlines are described below.
Minimum Eligibility Qualifications for Grants
- Wisconsin resident, enrolled in an undergraduate degree program (undeclared majors do qualify).
- Enrolled full-time in the UW System the semester prior to study abroad.
- Demonstrated financial need based on federal government guidelines for awarding financial aid.
- Accepted in a UW-Stout academic year, semester, winterm or summer study abroad or exchange program.
Amount of Grant Award

$2,000 for a semester or year long program with full time enrollment.

$1,000 for a 6+ credit short-term program.

$600 for a 2-5 credit short-term program.
Application and Award Process

Office of International Education (OIE) accepts Wisconsin residents into a study abroad program.

Financial Aid Office ranks the financial needs of all applicants.

The neediest students are awarded grants.
