Background: The Women's Mentoring Program for Academic Staff was initiated in Spring, 2003, following a recommendation in the Equality for Women Initiative to expand women's mentoring program to include separate programming for faculty, academic staff and classified staff.

Program Leadership: This program is maintained by a Steering Committee that is responsible for meeting the following goals and objectives of the program.

Goal of the UW-Stout Women's Mentoring Program for Academic Staff: Develop and sustain a mentoring program that is open to all women academic staff at UW-Stout that:

  • Encourages employee growth and development;
  • Promotes knowledge and involvement in the university community;
  • Fosters progress toward and support of personal and career-related goals;
  • Effectively recruits and retains mentors and protégés.

Program Objectives: Provide opportunities to:

  • Get to know other women academic staff at UW-Stout through face to face and electronic interactions;
  • Learn new skills through participation in professional training;
  • Learn about career development issues through workshops and one-on-one discussions;
  • Better understand the campus culture through presentations and one-on-one discussions;
  • Learn about how to get involved in campus committees, shared governance, and other campus leadership opportunities through presentations and attendance at committee meetings;
    Learn about promotion, title changes, raises and other personnel issues;
  • Identify goals of the mentoring relationship and receive support and encouragement toward attaining these goals.

Program Activities: In order to achieve these goals, the following program activities are offered:
