University of Wisconsin - Stout

Your cooperation in following the procedure and standards listed below may be important in saving your life and the lives of other residents of the hall if a fire or similar disaster should occur. It is the responsibility of every resident to be familiar with these procedures and standards and to observe them fully when the alarm sounds. Aside from scheduled alarm tests, everyone must leave the residence hall whenever the fire alarm sounds (failure to leave may result in University and civil sanctions).

  1. Close your windows.
  2. Raise your blinds.
  3. Leave your lights on.
  4. Wear a coat or blanket and hard-soled shoes.
  5. Carry a towel to place over your face in case of smoke.
  6. Leave your room and close the door.
  7. Go to your exit. Walk swiftly; do not run or push.
  8. If you are not in your room, go to the nearest exit.
  9. Assemble outside the hall at a safe distance (at least 150') from the building.
  10. Do not return to the hall until the signal is given.

Horseplay will not be tolerated at the time of an evacuation. Persons refusing to leave the residence hall during a fire drill or when the fire alarm sounds will be subject to University disciplinary action and civil action. See UWS18.06 (11)
