Telephones
Every student room is equipped with basic telephone service. Students need to provide their own phone. Basic service allows students to make on-campus calls and local calls. Special features included with basic service are call transfer, 3-way calling, call hold, and call waiting.
CAMPUS & LOCAL CALLS
To call another campus telephone:
- Listen for the dial tone.
- Dial the 4-digit extension.
To call off-campus locally:
- Listen for the dial tone.
- Dial "9", then the seven digit number. Local call areas include Boyceville, Colfax, Downsville, Elk Mound, Knapp, Menomonie, and Wheeler.
Call Transfer; to transfer a call to another campus phone:
- Depress the switch hook once and release it.
- Listen for the special dial tone.
- Dial the desired 4-digit extension.
- Announce the call, then hang up.
3-way conference; to connect third party to a two-party call:* Note: If the line to be added is busy or there is no answer, depress the switch hook twice to drop the signal and return to the original call.
- Depress the switch hook once, then release it.
- Listen for the special dial tone.
- Dial the number of the party to be added.
- Depress the switch hook to add the original party.
Call Waiting; to pick up an incoming call:
- Listen for the "bleep" acknowledging you have another call.
- Depress switch hook once to place first party on hold and answer second call.
- Depress switch hook again to alternate between calls.
- To abandon current caller, hang up. When your phone rings, lift the handset to continue with remaining caller.
LONG DISTANCE
Long distance calls may be made from student rooms by using prepaid calling cards or through use of a personal cell phone.
