In October 1928, (President Nelson) proposed a building program. He requested $300,000 to purchase an athletic field and $6,000 to equip it; $9,000 to purchase lots next to the gymnasium on the south; and $50,000 for an extension of the gymnasium. The request came just a year before the stock market crash, and Nelson was to experience very little success with a building program for the remaining 17 years of his administration.
