Present at the meeting: Dave Brenholt, Bob Dahlke, Glenn Gehring, Joe Hagaman, Frank Kennett, Orv Nelson, Roy Ostenso, Bill Siedlecki, Don Steffen, Robert Swanson, Kevin Thorie, Sue Pittman, Marty Springer, Bill Wikrent Glenn Gehring (Chm), opened the meeting with a review of past board activities including the official name of the association, the addition of a web page, letterhead, affiliation with the Dunn County Historical Society, creation of a Steering Comm., etc. Don Steffen added that the way to get to the web page is http://www.uwstout.edu/history/sha/. More information about the Stout Historical Association will be added at a later date. Our E mail address is SHA@uwstout.edu. Our parent organization, is online at http://discover-net.net/~dchs/. Kevin Thorie
spoke briefly about a few artifacts that he brought along, some of which
will be donated to the museum. There was limited discussion about the need to raise larger amounts of financial support. Sue Pittman expressed some concern about being cautious not to compete with Foundation and Alumni fund raising which is used to support student programs and activities. Gehring suggested that he doubted that this would be a problem. Different people support different projects and programs and he felt that those who currently support foundation programs are not likely to change. Frank Kennett told the group that he would be away from campus during the second semester and that he would probably become the curator for the Dunn County Historical Society when he comes back. Roy Ostenso would perhaps be the next president of the DCHS. Dave Brenholt spoke about plans to construct a display case. The cabinet could be used for display of Stout artifacts. He also told about the development of a working laboratory/shop for professional employees in rm. 172 of the tech wing. It may open in the spring of 2004.Joe Hagaman spoke about the possibility of starting an E mail discussion list. It was mentioned that we need to communicate with all Stout employees about donating Stout related artifacts. Bob Dahlke
told about a mailing that is being planned for all Stout alumni who
graduated prior to 1951. Bob Swanson spoke briefly about the recent Industrial Arts Workshop, which was held at Stout. It was the 50th annual meeting. There was
some discussion about the Virtual Museum idea. This idea has a lot of
interest and the association needs to work at forming a committee of
interested people to pursue the idea. It was
mentioned that it might be a good idea to have a student represented
on our group.
