Stout Historical Exhibit
At the beginning of the meeting there was an opportunity to view potential exhibit space in the northeast corner of the addition to the Rassbach Museum. Roy Ostenso and Frank Kennett described the other exhibits that are being developed in this area.

Sue Pittman noted that the classes of 1953, 1954 and 1955 will have their 50th reunion on campus October 8 and 9. It would be possible to bring the reunion groups to the Rassbach museum to view an SHA exhibit. The SHA members present were in favor of developing an exhibit for these groups.

The following ideas and suggestions were made for the exhibit.

  • Needs a theme or story to tell
  • The viewers should gain an understanding of what types of items could go into the SHA collection
  • We need to present some items related to each major offered in 1953-55
  • SHA should be able to borrow some items that reflect the home economics programs of that year
  • It was noted that projects were a central part of the curriculum at that time
  • Bob Swanson commented that he would like to see a mural that depicts various stages in Stout's history used as a backdrop for the exhibit.
  • Don Steffen has sources for reproducing large-scale photography. Could do cut-outs of faculty or others.
  • Class photos for the 1953-55 classes area available
  • It was suggested that tape recorders be available so the group members could record a story or memory of Stout.
  • Frank Kennett noted that we will need to have several people work on the exhibit. An exhibits committee meeting was set for July 19 in the Area Research Center at the Stout Library. Focus will be to begin planning the Stout exhibit.
  • Frank and Roy Ostenso commented that the museum has hired a professional consultant to design other museum exhibits.
